Climber Stewardship Day

It was a great day of climber stewardship, with contributions of time, sweat and $$ to give back to the incredible climbing resources of Tahquitz & Suicide Rocks. Much was accomplished, including honoring Jim Pinter-Lucke (founder of the ICA), and longtime climbing guide and icon, Clark Jacobs:
After gnoshing on morning goodies and a briefing from Tanya Pino (USFS- San Jacinto District), we headed out on several projects- up at Tahquitz, a few large deadfall trees were removed, including a particularly big one that has required ducking under for many years.
Over at Suicide, there was cleanup work to be done on the trailhead stairs (and a new trail sign), and graffiti to be removed from several signs closer to the trailhead.
Signposts were installed at the start of the singletrack portion of the Suicide trail for a future information board where USFS information and climbing background/historical information will be located related to Suicide Rock (similar to what is located at Tahquitz Rock).
This beautiful sign was installed on the Suicide Rock climbers trail where it begins to steeply climb:
And at both Tahquitz & Suicide Rocks, the badly deteriorating litters were removed:
Afterward, we gathered back at Idyllwild Town Hall for a productive Silent Auction where great deals were had on a range of climbing equipment from donating manufacturers such as Black Diamond, Edelrid, Metolius, Thermarest, Nomad Ventures, and many more. A Gear Swap added even more opportunity to score more gear, or make room for more stuff.
These are the kinds of days where we all really show just how much we love these mountains, and demonstrate our commitment to keeping them beautiful and protected. Hope to see you all join us at the next event…stay tuned!
